Reception and RFID Tagging

When a valuable medical item arrives at the hospital, a small adhesive RFID tag is attached to it. The tag is electronically linked to the information contained in the item barcodes. When the item is placed inside a StocKey® RFID Smart Cabinet, it automatically recognizes and identifies the item and adjusts the corresponding stock levels.

Preparation for Surgery

Once the item has been added to stock, it is available for use. When a member of the medical team removes an item from the StocKey® RFID Smart Cabinet in preparation for a surgical intervention, the item is deducted from stock and assigned to that particular member of staff.

Usage and documentation

To record and document the use of an item in surgery, the medical staff simply has to place the RFID tag in front of the point-of-use station. The required product information such as the manufacturer, lot number, serial number and expiry date can be uploaded to the hospital information systems (HIS, HER, ORIS...) and linked to the patient in question. Similarly a product can also be disposed of.

Return of unused items

StocKey® RFID Smart Cabinet automatically recognizes unused items that are returned to stock. These are deducted from the user on-hand stock list and added to the stock in the cabinet.

Stocks levels and product expiry dates are available online. The system will automatically issue electronic restocking orders based on the levels defined for each product.
